Additional services of VGT also include mining, quarrying and Safety Management Plans, and mining and subcontractor management.

Lisa Thomson has over 27 years’ experience in analytical and environmental chemistry, and in particular in the research and development fields.  Her qualifications include an Honours Degree in Applied Chemistry, and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.  Previous positions include research tenure in CSIRO, and development chemist at various manufacturing plants.  Lisa has had twenty years’ experience in environmental consultancy and testing, during which time she has assisted clients in industries including mining, manufacturing, ceramics, and construction. Lisa has gained particular experience with various flocculation and coagulation techniques, and extensive expertise in sampling environmental constituents. Her short-course in environmental sampling has been well received.

Lisa is Laboratory Manager and Principal Environmental Consultant at VGT Pty Ltd, and has over 27 years experience in analytical and environmental chemistry, with the past 20 years spent focusing on environmental consultancy and testing. She has assisted clients in industries including local government, mining and extractive, road and rail construction, civil projects, and manufacturing. 

Lisa’s leadership guided the VGT testing facilities through the stringent process to obtain NATA accreditation, a nationally and internationally recognised indicator of technical competence and best practice. Lisa also oversees the innovative VGT NATA-accredited mobile laboratory which is capable of testing Total Suspended Solids (TSS) on site as well as the more traditional field tests.

Lisa has contributed to a number of technical journals and also lectured at seminars on the subject of environmental sampling and analysis. Her previous positions include a research tenure in CSIRO and development chemist at various manufacturing plants.   

Technical Leadership and Expertise

Lisa has provided environmental consultancy and testing in the following areas:

  • Monitoring and Analysis - As a consulting chemist, Lisa directs all of VGT’s analytical requirements, including sampling of air, soil and water, and on-site analyses, in addition to providing technical advice to clients.   In addition to maintaining relationships with a diverse client base, Lisa is also the Client Manager for other environmental consultancies that subcontract work to the laboratory.  
  • Environmental Reporting - including preparation of annual reports to the Department of Primary Industry, Department of Environment and Climate Change and local Councils. These reports include Annual Environmental Management Reviews, Mining Operations Plans, Environmental Management Plans, Closure Plans and required annual reviews for Councils.
  • Research and Development—Lisa's background in research and development in both the public and private sector has lead to innovative solutions to complex unique problems for her clients.
